Electric vehicles accounted for 10% of all registered vehicles in Europe in July 2022
Battery-powered cars are rapidly gaining in popularity. They made about 10% of all new European vehicle registrations in July 2022. The sum of 966,453 new car registrations across 26 European nations was down 10% against the same month a year ago.
The market also declined by 13% compared from January to July 2021, with the total number of registrations totaling 6,398,609 units. While the overall market shrank, the volume of battery electric vehicles increased by 20% to 90,139 units, representing 10.4% of the total market volume, which is 2.6% more than 7.8% in July 2021.
The share of electric vehicles sold in Sweden also jumped significantly from 11.1% to 26.2% in July 2022. Other markets that reported a significant jump in the number of registered electric vehicles include Denmark (up 9.6% compared to July 2021), the Netherlands (up 6.9%), Romania (up 6.9%), and Norway (up 6.4%).
The best-selling electric car in Europe in July was the Fiat 500e with 4,999 registrations, which puts it above the VW ID.4 with 4551, Skoda Enyaq iV with 4530, and VW ID.3 with 3664 rolls. Other well-selling electric vehicles include Renault Megane E-Tech with 3,520 units, Peugeot e-208 with 3,412 cars, Hyundai Kona Electric with 3,383 units, Dacia Spring with 3004 copies, Cupra Born with 2,986 vehicles, and Hyundai. Ioniq 5 with 2854 registrations.
Chinese automakers have increased the number of registrations of their electric vehicles by 72% of these cars from the Geely Group. MG leads the way, registering almost 3,000 electric vehicles, which is most of the 3,501 Chinese electric cars registered during the month.
